Hopefully some good ones can come in between though? I'm hoping each one is a little better than the last one, and that I can make them quickly enough to make way more than ten.Solomonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03807160366853341640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2802729663053057372.post-28802832254235842182012-10-05T06:25:12.791-07:002012-10-05T06:25:12.791-07:00Yeah, it is very tough. A game is your baby and it's not easy to decide that real life factors are more important (e.g. not taking 4 years on it).

The thing is, it is very rare to get that perfect inspiration for what your game should become that will make millions of sales. I think that many game mechanics have that potential, but we can't make ourselves get there by spending lots of time on it unless we've had that magical inspiration. The alternative is to make something concrete and fulfilling, then move on to the next experiment until we do find the one.Jonny Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08258436294453331818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2802729663053057372.post-5427421221982217712012-10-04T11:05:01.039-07:002012-10-04T11:05:01.039-07:00The deck is pretty great. I'll look for "David Perry on Game Design" too when I can.

"Cut Scope" would be a good one for me to be heeding now, probably; hard to bring myself to do it, though :PSolomonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03807160366853341640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2802729663053057372.post-77966270104943493352012-10-04T10:38:57.237-07:002012-10-04T10:38:57.237-07:00Hey, I just got "The Art of Game Design: A De...Hey, I just got "The Art of Game Design: A Deck of Lenses". Pretty good stuff. I don't know if I'll get the book yet. I like "David Perry on Game Design" for a very comprehensive brainstorming guide.

If I could tell past-me some stuff about game development, it'd probably be "Cut scope: You can always make sequels", "Find fun then polish it to release (esp. after Ludum Dare)", and "Find collaborators early".Jonny Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08258436294453331818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2802729663053057372.post-38308560679387555182012-10-03T10:52:53.172-07:002012-10-03T10:52:53.172-07:00telling your younger self how to improve your game...telling your younger self how to improve your game development: good use of time travel, or BEST use of time travel?Solomonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03807160366853341640noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2802729663053057372.post-13194243281722658322012-10-03T10:47:06.848-07:002012-10-03T10:47:06.848-07:00You know, if you do go back, tell Past GBGames the...You know, if you do go back, tell Past GBGames the same things.
